Equip your structures with protective lightning rods

Lightning is a force of nature, and its power demands caution from building owners. It is the unstoppable result of high voltage currents, and its unpredictability renders its organic strikes very difficult to research. The majority of the information we have about lightning comes from educated estimates of typical values formed from other data.

It is estimated that there are 2,000 active lightning storms globally at any one time, which produce more than 100 strikes per second. These thunderstorms succeed in generating a potential difference of 200,000 to 500,000 volts between the earth’s surface and the ionosphere. This is the layer of the earth’s atmosphere that contains a high concentration of ions and free electrons, and is able to reflect radio waves. It lies above the mesosphere and extends from approximately 50 to 600 miles above the surface of the earth.

Approximately 300,000 lightning strikes hit the ground in the UK every year, with 30% of reported lightning strikes resulting in severe damage. 30 to 60 people are recorded as being hit by lightning on a yearly basis with 3 on average losing their lives. These numbers are beginning to decrease as a result of improved education and the availability of high quality lightning protection systems.

If you wish to equip your building with lightning protection to defend the structure against the risk of lightning, we can help. Our lightning rods are made from highly conductive materials and offer increased resistance to lightning when it strikes.

We have been supplying the finest lightning protection systems for many years and we have acquired invaluable industry knowledge and experience. We also provide a varied selection of high rise access solutions, restoration services, bird control, cladding, rigging, steel erecting and more. We maintain a competitive fee structure and although based in Sheffield we are able to offer our services nationwide and throughout Europe.
